Battle Tactics
Though tempting to send out ahead smaller, more mobile units of your army to scout ahead, it is very costly.

Likewise marching double-distance, doing double-work and finally contending with the enemy at a distance of a hundred leagues, results in the loss of the general. Since the strong men arrive first and the tired drop in rear, only one-tenth of the forces is available.

Be cautious, be smart, be flexible.


In regards to water:
After crossing a river, pass on immediately to a safe distance. When the enemy is crossing a stream, do not engage him in the waters, but strike when half his force has passed over.

This grants you the opportunity to take out half his force, for the front is unable to retreat, nor is the rear able to assist in time.
